Oxford - Local Area Information

Let it be known that you live in Oxford and you will find yourself subject to all kinds of assumptions - that you spend your afternoons punting on the river (summer) or eating crumpets by the fireside (winter), that your sitting room is oak-panelled, that your conversation, as the six o'clock sherry is poured, is in Latin....

While such things do occur in Oxford (some might say not nearly often enough), for many purposes it is a city like any other.

Central Oxford - "Dreaming Spires"

Oxford with its famous “dreaming spires” is the county town of Oxfordshire – a county notable for its charming thatched villages and picturesque countryside laced by the numerous streams and rivers including the Thames, Cherwell, Windrush and Evenlode.

The chief glory of Oxford itself is the ancient University which dates back to the 12th century. In addition to the many and varied treasures of the University colleges, places of interest abound and include the magnificent Christ Church College Chapel, the University of St Mary the Virgin, the Sheldonian Theatre, the Bodleian Library and the Ashmolean Museum - the oldest public museum in England.

A must also for any visitor’s itinerary is Stratford-upon-Avon – the birth place of William Shakespeare. However, just 2 miles from the Oxford training centre is the picture-book town of Woodstock, the location of one of Britain’s finest stately homes – Blenheim Palace. Designed by Vanbrugh, with magnificent grounds laid out by Capability Brown, Blenheim is the ancestral seat of the Duke of Marlborough and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.

London – one of the world’s most exciting capital cities is just 55 miles away and quickly reached either by regular bus or rail services or via the M40 motorway. The M40 also links to the M25 orbital motorway for speedy access to both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
