Oxford once again opened its doors to the public on the 18th October and had an even more astounding 574 attendees! Everyone had the opportunity to get the latest information on the hot topics of the current climate, from financing a course with Oxford, to the employment opportunities for our graduates. Presentations from guest speakers Captain Richard Parkinson of NetJets Europe and Captain Ian Baston of flybe, gave an even deeper insight for aspiring pilots and their families, before allowing everyone a chance to look around the facilities for themselves.

The evening was once again a time for celebrating the success of our current graduates from courses AP270 - AP276, as well as presenting our Annual Awards at the ceremony. A FANTASTIC £4,478 was raised on the night with a whole host of prizes ranging from airline flights and simulator sessions, to a pair of racing gloves worn by Formula 1's most experienced driver, Rubens Barrichello!

RECORD NUMBERS ATTEND THE JUNE 14TH OPEN DAY AT OAA OXFORD

The sun was most certainly shining for the latest Airline Pilot Training Open Day at Oxford Airport on Saturday 14th June, and what a day was had by all! OAA experienced one of its highest turn-outs yet from aspiring pilots and their families. Once again, the popular format of the Open Days was well received by those attending, with an informative presentation given by OAA management as well as NetJets Europe Cadet Programme Manager, Captain Richard Parkinson.

There is no doubt the day was a huge success and the fly-in of a NetJets Europe Hawker 800, proved to be a highlight of the day for all those wannabe pilots who wished to get some more information on the exclusive cadet programme. Captain Richard Parkinson further highlighted the ongoing requirement for pilots through their cadet programme due to their ever increasing European fleet size and the benefits of working for NetJets Europe.

In the afternoon, a traditional barbeque below the control tower provided refreshments for our customers while the Zlin 242L took to the skies in the capable hands of Mike Stokes, an OAA instructor and resident aerobatics guru, to put on a show for the attendees.

Further Airline Pilot Training Open Days have been planned for later in 2008. Keep watching the website for further details of the next event and until then, we hope to see some of the aspiring pilots returning to commence training with OAA in the near future!

OAA OPEN DAYS CONTINUE TO BE A GREAT SUCCESS FOR HUNDREDS OF PROSPECTIVE PILOTS

Skills Assessment

Nearly one year on from the first Airline Pilot Training Open Day, the success of the events, held on-site at Oxford Airport, continue to go from strength to strength. The latest Open Day had a staggering 400 visitors, all of which received a presentation on aspects such as the new company, the course and career opportunities, before having the chance to visit the facilities OAA has to offer.

Commenting on the open day, Anthony Petteford said, "We were delighted to have such a large turn-out for this latest open day at Oxford Airport and the first under our new designation of Oxford Aviation Academy. The high calibre of the prospective students that attended the event demonstrates that OAA’s APP First Officer training provides the premier commercial pilot training scheme and sets the bench mark against which all other schemes for ATPL qualification must be judged".

More Open Days have been planned for 2008 and we encourage anyone interested to book their places as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. For the latest seminar and Open Day dates, information on the day's events and how to book your place, please click here.

FIRST NETJETS COURSE STARTS TRAINING AT OXFORD

NetJets Aircraft at Oxford Airport

Earlier this year, Oxford Aviation Academy announced that NetJets Europe had entered an agreement to train up to 48 students a year for the fast developing airline.  This agreement was a first, for NJE’s established policy has been  to recruit only experienced pilots as First Officers for their exciting but challenging role of providing a fractional ownership service for VIPs, senior business executives and the like.  NJE’s new policy is based on placing highly selected students on OAA’s internationally recognized APP FO course, with some aspects tailored specifically to meet NJE’s specialist needs.  These include a unique, combined MCC and Jet Operational Conversion course on a new generation CRJ simulator planned for installation in Oxford’s Multi-Pilot Jet Training Centre early next year.

First Course of NetJets Students at OAT

The first selection process for the new scheme was carried out at Oxford and in Lisbon in March, resulting in 18 successful candidates being accepted by the airline.  The first group of 6 have now joined AP275 course, which started training at Oxford at the end of May.  To mark the occasion, NetJets’ Director of European Operations, Chris Randle, joined OAA’s Managing Director, Anthony Petteford, staff and students in a small celebration to mark the event.  The first graduates from the new scheme will join NetJets in September of next year.
